How Does Tank Testing Work?
The UST Ullage Test System is a microprocessor controlled test method which uses a transducer to record signals measured in the tank during the test.  The transducer is inserted into the tank through the fill pipe or other opening and is positioned just below the top of the tank.

The tank is monitored at atmospheric pressure to determine the background noise level.  The tank is then pressurized to 1.5 PSIG, or may be depressurized to 0.5 PSIG and monitored for the sound of air passing through an opening.

The UST Test System is a mass based system for measuring tank leakage.  It uses a patented mass measurement technique using the buoyancy force measurement of a displacement probe.  Changes in buoyancy force are directly related to changes in the mass of product in the tank.  Measuring mass change eliminates the need for correcting for product temperature expansion and contraction.
Our performance specifications are independently documented.  Ken Wilcox Associates, a prominent and respected certification center, has tested and certified the Alert products.  We have also had testing done at the Midwest Research Institute.  Our products meet or exceed U.S. EPA standards.
